August Goals

As each new month rolls around, I try to set myself some goals but I never really make an effort to document them and so there’s a kinda vicious circle of saying I’ll do something, then not doing it, then feeling annoyed with myself, and so on and so forth. So instead of letting that vicious circle continue, I’ve decided to actually note down what I want to achieve this month in the hope that it’ll actually happen.. 

  • To get back into my routine. I’ve been away a lot over the past 8 weeks or so – I’ve been in CA, AZ, NV, FL, MA and all sorts, only getting back to ‘reality’ a matter of days ago. I desperately need to get back into my routine (I feel a bit lost without one to be honest: I’m the student that literally has her life planned out by the hour weeks in advance..), because over the past 5 days, I’ve managed to run basic errands and watch lot of Netflix if I’m going to tell the truth. When I say routine, that includes food (because a girl can’t survive off of Tater Tots and avocado for all that long), fitness, the time that I actually move from my bed, and so much more…
  • To read for an hour a day. I suppose this leads on from my last point.. I spend a lot of time on Netflix/staring at my computer and, well, I just really want to do something other than that. So, I’m aiming to read for an hour a day: this could be related to my thesis research, or just fiction. I’m quite excited, to be honest.
  • To prepare for PhD applications. This is a bit of a big, and daunting, one. But ultimately, I hope to prepare over the course of this month so I’m not super stressed about applications when fall semester rolls around. My to-do list regarding this is on my whiteboard, ready to be ticked off..
  • To become more financially aware. I’m painfully aware that I’m not yet fully understanding of the world of finances, something that has been proved to me over the past month or so (I’m used to working over the summer – my visa currently doesn’t allow me to do so – or working as a TA during the semester). I’ve read blogs & watched YouTube videos full of tips on budgeting and saving. I’ve put in place a budget and I’ve got my spreadsheet ready and raring to go in the hope that I can feel financially secure for the next few months.

    I really enjoyed this post, especially reading for an hour a day! I’ll really have to try that out. Something that I struggled with a lot in July is overthinking, which then lead to some panic.


    • I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, thank you! I can definitely relate to you with the anxiety thing – I’m hoping that getting back into my routine and not spending all of my time at the computer will help me regain some control over it. X

        I find that routines are most helpful for controlling it, because then you have a plan. I hope it works out for you!
